How to Draw a Baby Flamingo

Step 1: A big egg head

Near the top draw a big egg standing on its fat end. This is the head.

Tip A little fatter by the cheeks and flatter at the bottom. Wobbles are fine.

Step 2: Three fluffy puffs

On top of the head draw 3 soft round puffs in a row, like little clouds. The middle is tallest.

Tip Baby flamingos are covered in fluffy down.

Step 3: Two big shiny eyes

Below the middle of the head draw 2 big eggy eyes, one eye apart. Add black dots with a shine.

Tip Each eye is about as wide as your thumb tip.

Step 4: A bent bill

Below the eyes draw a thick bill bending left. Start a line at its bend, stop at the far edge.

Tip Keep the whole bill inside the head.

Step 5: A round fluffy tummy

Start under the head at the left, draw a round tummy with 4 bumps underneath, and stop at the right.

Tip The tummy is narrower than the head, so the head stays biggest.

Step 6: Two tucked wings

Start each wing on the tummy under the head. Halfway down, make 3 bumps and curve back to the start.

Tip The wing is a plump leaf tucked against the tummy, reaching only halfway down.

Step 7: Little tail

Low on the right of the tummy draw a little tail sticking up: 2 leaf shapes, one above the other.

Tip The top feather is the longest.

Step 8: Long thin legs

Under the tummy draw 2 long thin legs with a knee bump halfway. End each in a flat ripple ring.

Tip The legs get thinner as they go down.

Step 9: Shallow water

Draw a long flat oval pool around the rings, from well left to well right. Add 2 short ripple curves.

Step 10: Cream wings, peach bill

Colour the wings cream, the bill above the line peach, and a peach cheek under each eye.

Step 11: Pink fluff

Colour the head, puffs, tummy and tail pink around the cheeks, bill and wings. Leave the eyes white.

Step 12: Legs, water, black tip

Colour the legs pink, the water sky blue and the bill tip black. Your baby flamingo is done!
