How to Draw a Waterspout
Draw a waterspout in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the storm cloud.
Step 1: The storm cloud
Start at the left. Draw 6 bumps over the top, 5 bumps along the bottom, and stop at the start.
Step 2: The funnel
From the cloud draw a funnel twisting down to the sea. It bends and gets thin at the foot.
Tip A waterspout is a tornado over the sea. Its foot sucks up spray.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Near the top of the funnel draw 2 round eyes a little apart, with a shiny dot in each.
Step 4: A smile
Under the eyes draw a happy smile, with a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Swirl stripes
Draw 3 curved stripes across the lower funnel, one above the other, each curving up like a smile.
Step 6: The sea
Draw 3 wavy lines right across the paper for the sea. The first one touches the foot of the funnel.
Step 7: Spray
Where the foot meets the water draw spray flying up: 2 curved lines each side and a few little drops.
Step 8: A sailboat
On the sea on the right draw a little boat: a flat box hull and a triangle sail.
Step 9: Gulls
Draw a little gull on each side of the funnel, 2 curved bumps like a wide M.
Step 10: Pink cheeks, grey funnel
Colour the cheeks pink, then the funnel light grey around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Dark grey cloud
Colour the storm cloud dark grey. Leave the sail white.
Step 12: Blue sea, brown boat
Colour the sea blue around the boat, then the boat brown. Go over your lines and your waterspout is done!
