How to Draw a Whole Watermelon
Draw a whole watermelon in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the melon.
Step 1: The melon
In the middle of your paper draw a big wide oval, like a fat egg lying on its side.
Step 2: The stem
At the very top of the oval draw a short stubby stem: 2 short lines up and a flat top.
Step 3: A curly tendril
Start on top of the stem. Draw a curly pig-tail out to the right, ending in a small loop.
Step 4: Wavy stripes
Draw 3 wavy stripes down the melon, one in the middle and one each side, pointed at both ends.
Tip Each stripe is a long wiggly leaf shape, not touching the outline.
Step 5: Two more stripes
Draw one thinner wavy stripe near each side of the melon the same way.
Step 6: A shine
Inside the left side of the melon draw a thin curved sliver like a tiny banana, a finger in.
Step 7: A slice
In front of the melon, low on the right, draw a half-moon slice: a flat top and a round bottom.
Step 8: Rind and seeds
Inside the slice draw 2 smaller U curves, each starting and stopping on the flat top. Add 3 small seeds.
Step 9: The ground
Draw a ground line under the melon and slice, touching both bottoms, from well left to well right.
Step 10: Green melon
Go over your lines. Colour the melon and the slice's rind light green, around the stripes. Leave the shine white.
Step 11: Dark stripes
Colour the 5 wavy stripes dark green, and the stem brown.
Step 12: Red slice
Colour the middle of the slice red, around the seeds. Leave the thin band white. Your watermelon is done!
