How to Draw a Walking Leaf
Draw a walking leaf in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a small head.
Step 1: A small head
Near the top draw a small round head with a flat chin. Leave lots of room below.
Tip A walking leaf hides by looking exactly like a leaf.
Step 2: 2 big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big eggy eyes, close together. Add a black dot in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a flat line to the right eye, then a U back. Add 2 cheeks.
Step 4: 2 feelers
Start on the head left of the top. Draw a thin feeler up and out, stop at a ball. Repeat.
Step 5: A big leaf body
From the chin draw a big leaf hanging down: round shoulders, wide in the middle, a sharp bottom point.
Tip The body IS a leaf: round at the top and pointed at the bottom.
Step 6: Midrib and veins
Start on the chin. Draw a straight line down the middle, stop at the point. Add 4 veins each side.
Step 7: Flat front legs
High on each side draw a leafy thigh up and out, then a thin shin down to a small foot.
Tip Leaf insect legs are flat like little leaves: fat in the middle, thin at the knee.
Step 8: Middle legs
At the widest part, draw a leafy thigh straight out each side, then a thin shin down to a foot.
Step 9: Back legs
Low on each side draw a leafy thigh down and out, then a thin shin to a foot. 6 legs!
Step 10: Pink cheeks, red mouth
Colour the cheeks pink and the open mouth red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Green body, head, legs
Colour the body light green. Colour the head, feeler balls and legs green, around the eyes, cheeks and mouth.
