How to Draw a Dog Silhouette
Draw a dog silhouette in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big circle.
Step 1: Big circle
Draw a big circle that fills most of your paper. Go slowly so it stays round.
Tip Draw it lightly. The dog will stand inside it.
Step 2: Head and eye
On the left, a little above the middle, draw a round head. Add one tiny eye.
Step 3: Blunt muzzle
Start on the front of the head. Draw a long muzzle with a nose bump, back to the chin.
Tip Rub out the head line inside the muzzle.
Step 4: Two ears
On top of the head draw 2 pointed ears standing up, the back one a little bigger.
Step 5: Long body
Start behind the head. Draw a long back, round the rump, along the tummy and up to the chin.
Tip The chest is deeper than the tummy.
Step 6: Front legs
Under the chest draw 2 legs with paws. Lean the first one forward so you see both.
Step 7: Back legs
Under the rump draw 2 back legs with paws. Make the top wide and bend the back edge.
Tip A dog's back leg has a knee at the front and a bend at the back.
Step 8: Curved tail
Start on the rump. Draw a tail that curves up and gets thinner, back to the rump.
Step 9: The ground
Start on the left of the circle. Draw a line under the paws and stop on the right.
Step 10: Pale yellow circle
Colour the circle above the ground pale yellow. Go carefully around the dog.
Step 11: Black ground
Colour the ground under the dog black.
Step 12: Solid black dog
Colour the whole dog black, even the ears, legs and tail. Leave the tiny eye white.
Tip A silhouette is a solid dark shape with no details inside.
