How to Draw a Virginia Map
Draw a virginia map in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long bottom.
Step 1: The long bottom
Start low on the left. Draw a long straight line to the right. Stop near the edge of your paper.
Tip Virginia is a wide, low triangle. Leave room above this line.
Step 2: The sea coast
Carry on from there. Go up a little, then wiggle up the coast with 2 soft bumps. Stop there.
Step 3: The river side
Carry on from there. Wiggle a line up to the left. Stop at a point near the top.
Tip This wiggly edge is a river, the Potomac.
Step 4: The top notch
From that point, draw a short line down to the left, then a longer line up to the left.
Step 5: Down the mountains
From the very top, draw a bumpy line slanting down to the left. Stop about halfway across.
Tip Mountains make this long bumpy edge.
Step 6: The bumpy middle
Carry on from there. Draw a bumpy line to the left. Finish by going up to a small point.
Step 7: The long tail
From that point, draw a line slanting down to the left. Join the start of your first line.
Step 8: The little finger
Right of the coast, across the water, draw a thin finger of land pointing down.
Tip This piece of Virginia sits across a big bay.
Step 9: Two mountains
Near the slanting left side, draw 2 little triangle mountains, the right one a bit higher.
Tip On a map, little triangles show where the mountains are.
Step 10: The capital star
On the right, a little in from the coast, draw a star for the capital city, Richmond.
Step 11: Green land
Go over your lines. Colour the land and the finger green, around the star and the 2 mountains.
Step 12: Brown and red
Colour the 2 mountains brown and the star red. Your map of Virginia is done!

Your finished drawing
