How to Draw a Vine

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a vine in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the winding stem.

Print

  1. Step 1: The winding stem

Start at the bottom, left of middle. Wind a stem up and over to the right, thin at the tip.

Tip Keep it wide at the ground so it can stand up.

  2. Step 2: Leaves on the left

On the left of the stem draw 3 pointed leaves, like fat almonds, pointing up: low, middle and high.

  3. Step 3: Leaves on the right

On the right draw 3 more pointed leaves pointing down and out, the top one at the tip.

  4. Step 4: Leaf veins

Start on the stem at each leaf. Draw 1 curved vein out to the tip, stopping just short of it.

  5. Step 5: Tendrils

Draw 2 curly tendrils springing off the stem, one in the middle and one near the top, each swirling once.

  6. Step 6: A bunch of grapes

From under the stem's curl draw a short stalk down. Hang 3 grapes, then 2 tucked under, then 1.

  7. Step 7: The ground

Start near the left edge. Draw a soft ground line across the bottom, through the stem, to the right edge.

  8. Step 8: Grass

On each side of the stem draw 2 pointed grass blades, starting and ending on the ground line.

  9. Step 9: Green leaves and grass

Go over your lines, then colour all 6 leaves and the grass green.

  10. Step 10: Purple grapes

Colour the grapes a juicy purple.

  11. Step 11: Brown stem

Colour the winding stem brown, and your vine is done.
