How to Draw a Viking Ship
Draw a Viking ship in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the boat.
Step 1: The boat
Draw a big banana boat with both ends sweeping up into tall horns. Add a sagging deck line across.
Tip Both ends sweep up high: that makes it a Viking ship.
Step 2: Mast and bar
From the middle of the deck, draw a tall pole up, stopping near the top. Add a flat bar across.
Step 3: Big sail
From the bar's left end, draw a big C down, a curve along the bottom, and a C back up.
Step 4: Sail stripes
Draw 4 lines down the sail, evenly spaced: start each on the bar and stop on the sail's bottom edge.
Step 5: The flag
From the tip of the pole, draw a long flag streaming forwards with a V notch, back to the pole.
Step 6: Dragon head
From the front horn's tip, draw a neck up to a long-snouted head, back to the horn. Add an eye.
Tip Vikings carved dragon heads to scare off sea monsters.
Step 7: The shields
Along the ship's side, under the deck line, draw 6 round shields in a row, a dot in each.
Step 8: The sea
Start at the left edge, below the shields. Draw wave bumps across to the right edge.
Tip The ship sits down in the water, so the sea covers its bottom.
Step 9: Cream sail, yellow shields
Colour the first, middle and last sail stripes cream. Colour every other shield yellow, starting with the second.
Step 10: Blue sea, wooden ship
Colour the sea blue, right to the bottom. Colour the boat, dragon, pole and bar brown, around the shields.
Tip Keep the dragon's eye white.
Step 11: Red shields and flag
Colour the white shields, the flag and the 2 white sail stripes red. Leave the dragon's eye white.
