14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a koala with joey in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Wide head

Near the top, a little left of the middle, draw a big wide oval head.

Tip Leave room on the right for the tree.

  2. Step 2: Fluffy ears

On each side of the head, draw a huge fluffy ear made of soft bumps. Add an oval inside.

Tip Koala ears are big and fluffy, like pom-poms.

  3. Step 3: Round eyes

Just below the middle of the head, draw 2 round eyes with black dots and a tiny white shine.

Tip Leave room between the eyes for a big nose.

  4. Step 4: Spoon nose

Between the eyes, draw a big tall oval nose, coloured black. Under it, draw a small curved smile.

  5. Step 5: Tree trunk

On the right, draw a flat oval. From each end, draw a long line down. Add a ground line.

Tip The left line hides behind her ear.

  6. Step 6: Round body

Start under the left cheek. Draw a big round body down, over the trunk edge, up to the right cheek.

Tip Her tummy presses against the tree.

  7. Step 7: Arm and leg

Draw a thick arm from her chin across the trunk, and a fat leg below. Add 2 claws to each.

Tip Each paw wraps round the far edge of the trunk.

  8. Step 8: Joey's head

On the left, against her back, draw a small wide head with 2 fluffy ears.

Tip A baby koala is called a joey.

  9. Step 9: Joey's face

Give the joey 2 black dot eyes, a tall black nose between them and a little smile.

  10. Step 10: Joey holds on

Under its head, draw a small round body. Add an arm and a leg reaching onto mum's back.

Tip The joey rides piggyback, holding on tight.

  11. Step 11: Bark marks

On the trunk, draw 3 short curved lines and a little oval knot.

  12. Step 12: Cream and tan

Colour the inside of mum's ears cream. Colour the oval top of the trunk tan.

  13. Step 13: Grey fur

Colour both koalas grey, around the cream ear middles. Leave mum's eyes white.

  14. Step 14: Brown trunk

Go over your lines. Colour the trunk brown, around the koalas.
