How to Draw a Trapper Hat

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a trapper hat in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

In the middle of your paper draw a big egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

  2. Step 2: Big eyes

Below the middle of the head draw 2 big oval eyes. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.

  3. Step 3: Nose, smile, cheeks

Under the eyes draw a tiny U nose and a wide smile. Add a small oval cheek beside each end.

  4. Step 4: The crown

Over the head draw a big round dome, flat across the forehead. Rub out the head line inside.

  5. Step 5: Fur band

Across the forehead draw a wide fluffy band with soft bumps, wider than the dome. Rub out the lines inside.

  6. Step 6: Ear flaps

Under each end of the band draw a furry flap over the ear to the jaw. Rub out lines inside.

Tip A trapper hat is a furry winter hat with big flaps that keep your ears warm.

  7. Step 7: Inside the flaps

Inside each flap draw a smaller smooth U from the band and back up to it, leaving a fur edge.

  8. Step 8: Seams

From the top of the dome draw 2 curved seams, one down each side, stopping at the fur band.

  9. Step 9: Ties

From the bottom of each flap draw a short string down to a little round pompom.

  10. Step 10: Snowflakes

Around the hat draw 3 little snowflakes, each made of 3 short lines crossing in the middle.

  11. Step 11: Cream fur

Colour the fur band, the fur edges of the flaps and both pompoms cream.

  12. Step 12: Pink cheeks, peach face

Colour the cheeks pink and the face peach around them. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Brown hat

Go over your lines, then colour the dome and the middle of each flap brown. Your trapper hat is done!
