How to Draw a Trapdoor Spider
Draw a trapdoor spider in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ground and burrow.
Step 1: Ground and burrow
Below the middle draw a long ground line across the page, with a wide flat oval hole in the middle.
Tip The spider lives inside and pops out.
Step 2: The head
Start on the left of the hole. Draw a big round head up and over to the right side.
Step 3: Big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big round eyes with black dots, and 2 tiny eyes above.
Step 4: Smile, fangs, cheeks
Start under the left eye, draw a U smile across to the right eye. Add 2 fangs and 2 cheeks.
Step 5: The trapdoor lid
Behind the head draw a big round lid propped open on the back of the hole, with a ring inside.
Tip The spider pushes its round lid up to peek out.
Step 6: Top legs
Beside each tiny eye draw a long bent leg up to a knee, then thinner down to the ground.
Tip Each leg bends at a knee and gets thinner down to the foot.
Step 7: 3 more legs each
Under each top leg draw 3 more bent legs, each shorter and lower, with feet on the ground.
Step 8: Pink cheeks, sandy ground
Go over your lines. Colour the cheeks pink, then the ground and the lid middle sand, around the legs.
Step 9: Tan lid, brown spider
Colour the lid band tan around the legs, then the spider brown around the cheeks. Leave eyes and fangs white.
Step 10: Dark grey hole
Colour the hole dark grey around the head. Your spider is done!

Your finished drawing
