How to Draw a Reticulated Python
Draw a reticulated python in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
In the top left, draw a big round head like an egg lying down. Leave room for the long body.
Tip The longest snake in the world needs lots of room for its body.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour big black dots, leaving white shines.
Step 3: Nostrils and smile
Dot 2 nostrils under the eyes. Start under the left eye and draw a wide smile to the right eye.
Step 4: Forked tongue
From the middle of the smile, draw a short tongue just past the chin. Split the end into 2 points.
Tip The tongue should not touch the body.
Step 5: Long winding body
From the right cheek, loop a long body round to a pointed tail, then come back to the chin.
Tip Keep the 2 edges the same distance apart until the tail.
Step 6: Belly line
Start under the chin. Draw a belly line down the inside of the neck, joining the edge at the bend.
Step 7: The ground
Start at the left edge under the snake. Draw a straight ground line across to the right edge.
Step 8: Diamonds on the neck
Along the back, draw 4 diamonds in a row, from just behind the head to the bend.
Tip Reticulated means net-like: the diamonds are its pattern.
Step 9: Diamonds to the tail
Carry the row on with 4 more diamonds, smaller and smaller toward the tail.
Step 10: Cream belly
Go over your lines. Colour the belly strip cream.
Step 11: Sand python
Colour the head and body sand, going around the belly and the diamonds. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Brown diamonds, red tongue
Colour the diamonds brown and the tongue red. Your reticulated python is done!
