How to Draw a Trailer

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a trailer in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the long box.

Print

  1. Step 1: The long box

Start on the bottom edge. Draw a long box: left, up, across, down, back. Stop, leaving a wheel gap.

Tip Leave the gap just right of the middle. The big wheel goes there.

  2. Step 2: The big wheel

In the gap draw a big round tyre that hangs below the box. Draw a small hub in its middle.

  3. Step 3: The mudguard

Start on the bottom edge left of the tyre. Draw an arch over the tyre. Stop on the bottom edge.

Tip Keep the arch the same distance from the tyre all the way over.

  4. Step 4: Three planks

Draw 2 long lines across the box to make 3 planks. Start at the front, stop at the back.

Tip Make the 3 planks the same height.

  5. Step 5: The tow bar

Start low on the front of the box. Draw a long thin bar pointing left. Stop at a round cup.

Tip The cup is the part that hooks onto a car.

  6. Step 6: The stand wheel

Under the tow bar draw a short post going down. Add a small wheel with a tiny hub.

Tip Line up the bottom of the small wheel with the bottom of the big tyre.

  7. Step 7: The tail light

At the back end of the bottom plank draw a small square tail light.

  8. Step 8: The ground

Draw a long flat ground line under both wheels, from the left side to the right side.

  9. Step 9: Yellow hubs

Colour the hub of the big wheel and the hub of the small wheel yellow.

Tip Yellow is the lightest colour, so it goes first.

  10. Step 10: Grey metal

Colour the mudguard, the tow bar, its cup and the post grey.

  11. Step 11: Red light, brown box

Colour the tail light red. Then colour the 3 planks brown, around the light and the mudguard.

  12. Step 12: Dark tyres

Colour both tyres dark grey, around the yellow hubs. Go over your lines. Your trailer is ready to tow!
