14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a tufted titmouse in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and crest.

Print

  1. Step 1: Head and crest

Near the top left, draw a big round head. At the back, sweep up into a short pointed crest.

Tip Leave room on the right and below for the body and branch.

  2. Step 2: Tiny beak

Start on the front of the head. Draw a tiny fat triangle out to a point, back to the head.

  3. Step 3: One big eye

Behind the beak, a finger back, draw a big round eye with a big black dot and a white shine.

  4. Step 4: Patch and cap

Above the beak draw a small round patch. Curve a line from it to the eye, then on back.

Tip The line hides behind the eye and stops on the back of the head.

  5. Step 5: Plump body

Start on the back of the head. Curve down the back, round a fat belly, and stop under the beak.

Tip A plump egg hanging under the head, narrower than the head.

  6. Step 6: Fan tail

Start on the back end of the body. Draw a fan pointing down and back, then back to the tummy.

  7. Step 7: Folded wing

Start under the back of the head. Draw a shoulder forward, then sweep back to a point by the tail.

  8. Step 8: Side line

Start under the wing. Draw a curved line down to the bottom of the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Front leg and toes

Start under the front of the tummy. Draw a short thin leg with 3 toes, back to the tummy.

  10. Step 10: Back leg and toes

A thumb behind the first leg draw a second leg the same way, starting and stopping on the tummy.

  11. Step 11: The branch

From the left edge, draw a branch top hopping over the toes, round the end, and back along the bottom.

  12. Step 12: Peach side

Colour the side under the wing peach. Leave the face, the chest and the tummy white.

Tip Keep the eye white too.

  13. Step 13: Grey feathers

Colour the cap and crest, the back, the wing and the fan tail grey.

  14. Step 14: Dark bits, brown branch

Colour the patch black and the beak, legs and toes dark grey. Colour the branch brown, around the toes.
