How to Draw a Thumbs Down

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a thumbs down in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the thumb.

Print

  1. Step 1: The thumb

Start left of the middle. Draw a fat thumb hanging down, round at the tip. Stop level with the start.

Tip Keep it short and fat. Sweep the last bit out to the right.

  2. Step 2: First curled finger

Where the thumb stops, draw a long sausage lying sideways, round at both ends.

  3. Step 3: Two more fingers

On top of it draw 2 more sausage fingers. Each one starts and stops on the finger below.

  4. Step 4: Little finger

Start on the finger below. Draw the last finger the same way, shorter and thinner, and stop on it again.

  5. Step 5: Side of the hand

Start at the thumb's left end. Curve up the side of the hand and in. Stop above the fingers.

  6. Step 6: Wrist line

Start on top of the little finger. Draw a short wrist line straight up. Stop level with the other side.

  7. Step 7: Soft cuff

Across the 2 wrist ends draw a soft cuff with round corners, a little wider than the wrist.

  8. Step 8: Thumb crease

High on the thumb, start on its right edge and draw 1 short curve in. Stop before the middle.

  9. Step 9: Peach hand

Colour the thumb, the fingers, the hand and the wrist peach.

  10. Step 10: Blue cuff

Colour the cuff blue. Go over your lines and your thumbs down is done.
