How to Draw a Theater Mask
Draw a theater mask in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: happy mask.
Step 1: Happy mask
Low on the left, draw a big mask tipped left, wide at the brow, narrowing to a round chin.
Step 2: Happy eye holes
In the top half of the mask draw 2 almond eye holes. Add a rainbow eyebrow above each.
Step 3: Big smile
Under the eye holes draw a big smile hole, shaped like a slice of watermelon.
Step 4: Sad mask
Up on the right, peeking out from behind, draw a second mask, a little smaller and tipped right.
Step 5: Sad eye holes
On the sad mask draw 2 almond eye holes drooping at the outside ends. Add a slanting eyebrow above each.
Step 6: Sad mouth
Under the sad eye holes draw a frown hole, like an upside-down slice of watermelon.
Step 7: Ribbon ties
From each mask's outside edge draw 2 lines side by side, curving out and down. Stop beside the chin.
Step 8: V-cut ends
To close each ribbon, start at one line, draw a V pointing up and stop at the other line.
Step 9: Sparkles
Draw 3 little 4-point sparkles, 2 up high and 1 at the bottom right, away from the masks.
Step 10: Yellow happy mask
Go over your lines. Colour the happy mask yellow. Leave its eye holes and smile white for now.
Step 11: Sky sparkles, red ribbons
Colour the 3 sparkles sky blue and both ribbon ties red.
Step 12: Purple sad mask
Colour the sad mask purple. Leave its eye holes and mouth white for now.
Step 13: Black holes
Colour the eye holes and both mouths black, leaving a white shine in each eye. The show can begin!
