How to Draw a Tarantula
Draw a tarantula in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Below the middle of your paper draw a big round head, a bit wider than tall, like a bun.
Tip The face is the star of this spider, so make it big.
Step 2: A big furry tummy
Behind the head draw a big round tummy, like a fat egg, with even little fur bumps all round.
Tip A tarantula is big, chunky and hairy: the bumpy edge is its fur.
Step 3: Big eyes
Draw 2 big round eyes almost touching, with black dots and shines. Add a small dot eye above each one.
Tip Spiders have lots of eyes!
Step 4: Smile, fangs and cheeks
From under the left eye draw a U smile across to the right eye. Hang 2 fangs. Add 2 cheeks.
Tip Keep the fang tips a finger above the chin.
Step 5: Top legs
From each side of the head draw a bent leg up to a knee, then down to a point.
Tip Fat at the head, thinner toward the tip.
Step 6: Second legs
A finger lower, draw a bent leg from each side out to a knee, then down to a point.
Step 7: Third legs
Level with the eyes, draw a bent leg from each side out to a knee, then down to a point.
Step 8: Bottom legs
By each cheek draw the last leg down to a knee, then down to a point near the bottom. Eight!
Step 9: Knee bands
Draw a short band across each leg at the knee, like a little closed stripe. Eight knees!
Tip Many tarantulas have bright orange knees.
Step 10: Orange knees, pink cheeks
Colour each knee stripe orange. Colour the 2 cheeks pink.
Step 11: Brown tarantula
Colour the head and the tummy brown around the pink cheeks. Leave the eyes and the fangs white.
Step 12: Brown legs
Colour all eight legs brown around the orange knees, right down to the pointed tips.
