How to Draw a Calf
Draw a calf in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.
Step 1: Big round head
Near the top left, draw a big round head with soft cheeks. Leave lots of room on the right.
Tip A big head is what makes it cute.
Step 2: Eyes and nose
Draw 2 big oval eyes with black dots. Under them, draw a big egg nose with nostrils and a smile.
Step 3: The ears
On each side of the head, level with the eyes, draw a leaf ear sticking out, with a smaller leaf.
Step 4: The neck
Start behind the head, below the eye. Draw the neck sloping gently down. Stop a third of a head along.
Tip Let it flatten out at the end: that is where the back starts.
Step 5: Bean body
From the neck, draw a big soft bean body: a long back, a round bottom, a tummy and a chest.
Tip A bean, not a loaf: the bottom is rounder and higher.
Step 6: Two legs
Draw a ground line. Draw a front leg from the chest and a bent back leg from the bottom.
Tip A hoof is a little doorstop with a line across its top.
Step 7: The far legs
Draw 2 thinner legs peeking out, one behind the front leg and one in front of the back leg.
Step 8: The tail
From the top corner of the bottom, draw a thin tail hanging down to a small hairy tuft.
Step 9: Patches
Draw wobbly patches: one on the shoulder, one on the bottom, one on the tummy, one by an eye.
Step 10: White calf, pink nose
Go over your lines. Colour the body white, and the nose and ear insides pink.
Step 11: Colour the hooves
Colour the hooves slate grey.
Step 12: Brown patches
Colour the patches and the tail tuft brown, and your calf is done. Keep the eyes white.
