How to Draw a Tall Cat in a Hat

Step 1: Big round head

Draw a big egg on its side in the middle of your paper. Give each cheek 2 little fur points.

Tip Leave lots of room above the head for a tall hat.

Step 2: Pointy ears

On each top corner of the head, draw a tall pointy ear. Add a small triangle inside each one.

Tip Keep a gap between the ears: the hat sits there.

Step 3: Two big eyes

In the middle of the head, draw 2 big oval eyes, one eye apart. Add black dots and white shines.

Step 4: Nose and W smile

Under the eyes, draw a small upside-down triangle nose and colour it pink. Hang a W smile from its point.

Tip Both smile curves start at the very same spot on the nose.

Step 5: Hat brim

Across the head, draw a long flat brim in front of the ears. Rub out the lines inside it.

Step 6: Tall crown

From the brim, draw a tall line up, a curved top and back down to the brim. Add a band.

Step 7: Plump body

Start under each cheek. Draw a big C down and round to meet in the middle at the bottom.

Tip The body is never wider than the head.

Step 8: Front legs

Start under the chin and draw a U leg down to a fat mitten paw. Add 2 toe lines.

Tip Wide at the top, thin at the ankle. Draw both legs.

Step 9: Back paws

Under each side, draw a small bun paw tucked behind the front paw. Add 2 toe lines.

Step 10: Curly tail

Start on the right of the body. Draw a thick tail along the ground that curls up to a round tip.

Tip Thick at the body, thin at the tip.

Step 11: Whiskers and ground

Draw 2 whiskers out from each cheek. Start left of the back paw and draw the ground past the tail.

Step 12: Pink ears, yellow band

Colour the little triangles in the ears pink. Colour the band on the hat yellow.

Step 13: Ginger fur

Colour the head, ears, body, legs and tail ginger, around the pink. Leave the eyes white.

Step 14: Blue hat

Colour the brim and the tall top of the hat blue, around the yellow band.
