How to Draw a T-Rex Skeleton

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a T-rex skeleton in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the skull.

Print

  1. Step 1: The skull

Near the top left draw a small bony skull: a flat top, a long sloping snout and a blunt nose.

Tip A skeleton is the bones inside: skull, backbone, ribs, hips and legs.

  2. Step 2: Eye hole and nostril

Near the back of the skull draw a big oval eye hole. Near the nose draw a small nostril hole.

  3. Step 3: Teeth and bottom jaw

Zigzag pointy teeth along the top jaw, starting and stopping on it. From the back draw an open bottom jaw.

Tip The jaw hangs from the back of the skull, like a door hinge.

  4. Step 4: The backbone

Start at the skull's back. Curve the backbone down the neck, then run it level. Stop near the right edge.

Tip A T. rex holds its back and tail level, like a seesaw.

  5. Step 5: Neck and back bones

From the skull to the hips draw 6 little ovals sitting on the backbone, like beads on a string.

  6. Step 6: Tail bones

Along the tail draw 6 more ovals, getting smaller and smaller toward the tip.

  7. Step 7: Ribs

Start on the backbone over the chest. Draw 4 curved ribs hanging down and bending forward, ending in the air.

Tip Like the bars of a cage.

  8. Step 8: Hip bone

Where the back meets the tail draw one big oval bone for the hips, sitting on the backbone.

  9. Step 9: Big leg

From the hip draw a thigh bone forward to a knee, a shin back to an ankle, then 3 toes.

Tip Each bone is a stick, fat at both ends and thin in the middle.

  10. Step 10: Other leg, tiny arm

Draw the other leg behind it, more upright. On the chest add a tiny bent arm with 2 finger bones.

  11. Step 11: The ground

Start at the left side of the paper. Draw one long line under the toes across to the right side.

  12. Step 12: Cream bones

Colour all the bones cream, around the eye hole and nostril.

  13. Step 13: Grey holes

Colour the eye hole and the nostril slate grey.
