How to Draw a Swamp
Draw a swamp in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the water.
Step 1: The water
Start at the left edge below the middle. Draw a soft wobbly water line across to the right edge.
Step 2: The far bank
Start at the left edge above the water. Draw a soft hill line behind it, ending at the right edge.
Step 3: A bare tree
Start on the right of the bank. Draw a trunk up that splits into 3 pointy bare branches.
Tip No leaves: swamp trees are spooky and bare.
Step 4: A stump
Start on the left of the bank. Draw a short stump up and stop on the bank. Oval on top.
Step 5: Lily pads
On the water draw 2 flat oval lily pads. Give each a short line from its middle to its edge.
Step 6: Cattails
On the bank, right of the tree, draw 3 tall thin reeds. Put a fat sausage on top of each.
Step 7: Peeping eyes
On the left of the water draw 2 little bumps poking up. Put a black dot in each.
Step 8: Ripples and bubbles
Draw 3 short curved ripples on the water and 2 little bubbles near the middle.
Step 9: Grass
On the bank draw 2 tufts of grass, each 3 blades fanning up from one spot.
Step 10: Tan bank
Colour the bank tan, going round the tree and the stump.
Step 11: Green pads and water
Colour the lily pads leaf green. Colour the water green around the pads and eyes, and leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Brown trunks and cattails
Colour the tree, the stump and the cattail tops brown. Your swamp is done!
