How to Draw a Surfer

Draw a surfer in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Step 1: The head
Near the top, in the middle, draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Leave room on both sides for the arms held out.
Step 2: The face
Draw 2 big round eyes with dots and shines. Add a U nose, a smile and 2 eyebrows.
Step 3: Shaggy hair
Start on the left side. Draw soft tufts over the head and stop on the right. Add a curved hairline.
Step 4: Neck and vest
Add 2 neck lines. From the left one, draw the vest down, across, and up to the right one.
Step 5: Arms held out
From each side of the vest, draw 2 lines out to the wrist, with a soft elbow, getting narrower.
Step 6: Mitten hands
Start on one arm line, draw a round mitten with the thumb up, and stop on the other.
Step 7: Board shorts
From the vest bottom, draw shorts, pointed between the legs, back to the vest. Add 2 short stripes.
Step 8: Legs apart
From each leg of the shorts, draw 2 lines down and a little out, stopping above the page bottom.
Step 9: Bare feet
Start on one leg line, draw a bare foot with 3 toe bumps pointing out, and stop on the other.
Step 10: Surfboard and sea
Draw a long pointy surfboard under the feet. Add a sea line from edge to edge with one curling wave.
Tip Draw a stripe along the middle of the board.
Step 11: Peach skin, pink cheeks
Colour the face, neck, arms, legs and feet peach. Add 2 pink cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Yellow hair, blue sea
Colour the hair yellow. Colour the sea light blue, going around the board, down to the bottom.
Step 13: Orange shorts, red board
Colour the shorts orange and the surfboard red, going around the feet.
Step 14: Blue vest
Go over your lines. Colour the vest blue, and your surfer is ready to ride.
