How to Draw a Sunflower
Draw a sunflower in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle.
Step 1: The middle
Near the top of your paper, draw a big roundish circle, about as big as a grapefruit, for the middle.
Tip The petals will be short, so the middle has to be big.
Step 2: Seed criss-cross
Fill the middle with seeds: 4 lines leaning one way across the circle, then 4 crossing the other way.
Tip Like a waffle or a net. Stop every line on the circle.
Step 3: Six petals
Start on the circle, top. Draw a pointy petal out, back to the circle. Do 6 round the clock.
Tip Each petal is shorter than the middle is wide, like sun rays.
Step 4: Six more petals
Fill each gap: start on the circle between 2 petals, draw a petal out and back to the circle.
Tip Now there are 12 petals.
Step 5: The stem
Start on the bottom petal, draw a bowed line down to near the bottom. Add another, wider at the bottom.
Tip Keep the stem thin under the flower and thicker at the ground.
Step 6: Two leaves
A thumb below the petals, draw a fat leaf from the stem out left to a tip. Same right.
Step 7: Leaf veins
From the stem, draw one curved vein line through the middle of each leaf, stopping just short of the tip.
Step 8: The ground
Start near the left edge. Draw a soft sagging ground line across the bottom, stopping near the right edge.
Step 9: Grass
From the ground line at each side of the stem, flick 2 little grass blades up.
Step 10: Yellow petals
Colour all 12 petals yellow.
Step 11: Brown middle, green stem
Colour the middle of the sunflower brown. Colour the stem and both leaves green.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a sunflower, drawn by you.
