How to Draw a Suit of Armor

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a suit of armor in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the helmet.

Print

  1. Step 1: The helmet

Draw a bucket helmet: round dome, straight sides, rounded chin. Add a line from the top halfway down.

  2. Step 2: The visor

Where the line stops, draw a flat band across the helmet with 3 eye slits. Add 3 breathing lines below.

Tip No face shows: this armor is empty!

  3. Step 3: The plume

From the top of the helmet, draw a feathery plume sweeping over to the left, like a long leaf.

  4. Step 4: Neck and breastplate

Draw 2 neck lines and a body with sleeves. Add a line from the neck down to the waist.

  5. Step 5: Shoulder plates

Over each shoulder, draw a big round plate like a half-egg, with a curved line across it.

  6. Step 6: Plate arms

Under each shoulder plate, draw an arm hanging down, thinner at the wrist. Draw a small circle inside each elbow.

  7. Step 7: Gauntlets

At each wrist, draw a short wide cuff. Under it, draw a round fist with a thumb curve.

  8. Step 8: Belt and skirt plates

Below the chest, draw 2 curved belt lines close together. From the belt, draw 2 lines down to the hem.

  9. Step 9: Legs

Under the hem, draw 2 legs, narrower at the ankle, with a gap between. Add a curve across each knee.

  10. Step 10: Boots and ground

Under each leg, draw a tall boot with a heel and a long toe pointing out. Add a ground line.

  11. Step 11: Grey helmet and body

Go over your lines. Colour the helmet, neck, breastplate, skirt and shoulder plates grey, not the visor or belt.

  12. Step 12: Grey arms and legs

Colour the arms, gauntlets, legs and boots grey too, but not the elbow discs.

  13. Step 13: Slate visor, red plume

Colour the visor, belt and elbow discs slate blue, and the plume red. Your suit of armor stands guard!
