How to Draw a Stuffed Axolotl

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a stuffed axolotl in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top draw a big head like an egg on its side. It is almost half the axolotl.

Tip Fat round cheeks and a narrower chin, not a perfect circle.

  2. Step 2: Frilly gills

On each side of the head draw 3 frilly gills like fat leaves: one up, one out, one down.

Tip Axolotls breathe through these frills!

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

On the middle of the head draw 2 big round eyes, one eye apart. Add black dots with shines.

  4. Step 4: Nostrils and cheeks

Under the eyes draw 2 small nostril dots. Add a little oval cheek on each side of the face.

  5. Step 5: A wide smile

Under the nostrils draw one wide U smile across the face, from cheek to cheek.

  6. Step 6: Belly and tummy patch

Start under the left cheek. Draw a big pear body, stopping under the right cheek. Add an oval tummy patch.

Tip The body is narrower than the head, widest low down.

  7. Step 7: Hugging arms

From under each cheek draw a sausage arm down the side, bending in to a mitten beside the tummy patch.

  8. Step 8: Back legs and feet

On each side of the belly draw a round C leg. Under it draw a fat flat foot, toes out.

Tip The leg pokes out wider than the body; the foot is a flat loaf.

  9. Step 9: Toes and ground

Draw 3 toe lines on each foot. Draw a long ground line under both feet, with room for the tail.

  10. Step 10: Paddle tail

Behind the right leg draw a big flat paddle tail, out to the right with a round end.

  11. Step 11: A bow

Under the chin draw a bow: a round knot in the middle and a fat loop on each side.

  12. Step 12: Peach tummy, red gills

Go over your lines. Colour the tummy patch and cheeks peach, and the 6 gills red.

  13. Step 13: Pink body, blue bow

Colour the axolotl pink, around the peach and the bow. Then colour the bow blue.

    Tip Leave the eyes white.
