How to Draw a Splashdown Capsule
Draw a splashdown capsule in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the waves.
Step 1: The waves
Below the middle draw gentle wave bumps from edge to edge. Add 2 short ripples under each side.
Step 2: The capsule
From the waves draw 2 sides sloping in to a flat top. Add a small hatch on top.
Tip The capsule sits LOW in the water, its wide bottom under the waves.
Step 3: The round window
In the middle of the capsule draw a big round window.
Step 4: A happy face
In the window draw 2 big round eyes with a dot and shine, 2 cheeks and a smile.
Step 5: Seam and flag
Draw a curved seam low on the capsule. From the top draw a thin pole up, ending in a flag.
Step 6: Two parachutes
Beside the capsule draw 2 tipped parachute domes touching the water, each with a bumpy edge and 2 curved lines.
Tip The parachutes flop over onto the water, still tied to the capsule.
Step 7: Parachute lines
From each parachute's bumpy edge draw 3 thin lines that meet at the side of the capsule.
Step 8: The sun
In the top left draw a round sun.
Step 9: Grey bottom, yellow sun
Go over your lines. Leave the capsule white above the seam, colour it grey below, and colour the sun yellow.
Step 10: Pink cheeks, sky window
Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the window sky blue around the eyes and cheeks, and leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Orange parachutes
Colour the two parachutes orange.
Step 12: Blue sea, red flag
Colour the sea blue from the waves down to the bottom of the paper, and the flag red. Splashdown!
