How to Draw a Stream
Draw a stream in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the far edge.
Step 1: The far edge
Draw a straight line near the top of your paper, edge to edge. Add a short curve in the middle.
Step 2: The left bank
Start on the far line, left of the middle. Wiggle down, leaning left. Stop just above the bottom edge.
Tip The stream looks narrow far away and wide up close.
Step 3: The right bank
Start on the far line, right of the middle. Wiggle down, drifting right. Stop just above the bottom edge.
Step 4: Rocks in the water
In the stream draw 3 flat oval rocks: one high, one in the middle and one low.
Step 5: Ripples
Draw 4 short curved ripples in the water, not touching the banks or the rocks.
Step 6: A little fish
In the water above the top rock draw a tiny fish: a small oval with a triangle tail.
Step 7: Grass on the left
Along the left bank draw 3 tufts of grass, each with 3 blades fanning up.
Step 8: Grass on the right
Do the same along the right bank: 3 tufts of 3 blades.
Step 9: Two trees
On the right bank draw a short trunk with a big lumpy top. Add a smaller tree on the left.
Step 10: Green banks
Colour the land on both sides of the stream leaf green, going around the trees, out to the edges.
Step 11: Grey rocks, green trees
Colour the rocks grey and the tree tops green.
Step 12: Blue water
Colour the stream blue between the banks, going around the rocks.
Step 13: Brown trunks
Colour the tree trunks wood brown. Go over your lines and your stream is done!
