How to Draw a Stop Sign
Draw a stop sign in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top, bottom, sides.
Step 1: Top, bottom, sides
Start with a flat line on top. Add one below and one each side, all equal. Stop before the corners.
Tip Leave a gap at each corner. The gaps are as big as the lines.
Step 2: Slanted corners
Close each gap with a slanted line, from the end of one line across to the next.
Tip A stop sign has 8 equal sides. Count them!
Step 3: The white border
Just inside, draw the same 8-sided shape again, close to the edge all the way round.
Tip Keep the gap between the 2 shapes the same on every side.
Step 4: A fat S
On the left of the sign's middle, draw a tall fat S with flat ends.
Tip Fat letters are drawn as outlines, so you can leave them white.
Step 5: A fat T
Next to the S draw a fat T, just as tall: a flat bar on a thick stem.
Step 6: A fat O
Then draw a fat O: a tall box with round corners and a thin one inside it.
Step 7: A fat P
Last comes a fat P: a thick stem with a round bump on top and a small hole.
Step 8: The pole
From the middle of the sign's bottom edge draw 2 close lines straight down, stopping low on the page.
Step 9: The base
Start low left of the pole. Draw a small flat box up, across and down, stopping level with the start.
Step 10: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line from edge to edge under the base. Add a grass tuft of 3 blades each side.
Step 11: Red sign
Go over your lines. Colour the sign red around the letters. Leave the letters and the thin border white.
Tip Colour slowly next to the letters so the red stays outside them.
Step 12: Slate pole
Colour the pole and its base slate grey. Your stop sign is done!
