How to Draw a Station Wagon

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a station wagon in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: nose, roof and hatch.

Print

  1. Step 1: Nose, roof and hatch

Start low at the front. Draw up the nose, over the bonnet and long roof, stopping low at the back.

Tip A station wagon is a stretched car: the roof stays flat right to the back.

  2. Step 2: Belly and arches

Start where you stopped. Draw an arch, a flat belly and a second arch, stopping where you began.

Tip Make each arch round, like the top of a circle.

  3. Step 3: Fat tyres

Under each arch draw a fat round tyre with a smaller hub circle and a dot inside.

Tip Tuck each tyre right up so its top touches the arch.

  4. Step 4: Round headlight

Near the front, just under the bonnet, draw a big round headlight.

Tip Keep a ring of body all round the headlight.

  5. Step 5: Windows and pillars

Start behind the bonnet. Draw a long window under the roof, and 3 pillars down to its base.

Tip Keep a strip of body between the windows and the roof.

  6. Step 6: Grille and bumper

Under the headlight draw 2 grille lines. From low on the nose, draw a bumper lip round to the arch.

Tip The bumper hugs the bottom corner of the nose.

  7. Step 7: The door

From the first and middle pillars, draw door lines down to the sill and the arch. Add a small handle.

  8. Step 8: Tail light and pipe

Add a tail light. From low on the back, draw a cup pipe back to the body, and a puff.

Tip The pipe is a little flared trumpet, and the puff floats a finger behind it.

  9. Step 9: Roof rack

On the roof draw a long flat bar floating a finger above it, held up by 3 short posts.

  10. Step 10: The road

Start in front of the nose. Draw a straight road under the tyres, stopping under the puff.

  11. Step 11: Blue windows, yellow lights

Colour the 4 windows sky blue, leaving a white shine stripe in the front one. Colour both lights yellow.

  12. Step 12: Grey bits

Colour the hubs grey around their dots, and the handle, bumper, pipe, puff and roof rack grey too.

  13. Step 13: Green wagon, black tyres

Colour the body green around the windows, lights and handle. Colour the tyres black around the hubs.
