How to Draw a Ship
Draw a ship in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the waves.
Step 1: The waves
Below the middle of your paper, draw gentle wave bumps right across the page. Add a few ripple dashes below.
Tip Little hills, not spikes, about 12 of them all the same size.
Step 2: The hull
Start on the waves. Draw a tall round front and a sloping deck, down to the waves. Add a rail.
Tip Never draw the bottom of the boat: it is under the water.
Step 3: Porthole eyes
On the hull, draw 2 big round porthole eyes, one eye apart. Add a black dot and shine in each.
Step 4: The smile
Start a little below the left eye. Draw a small U smile, stopping a little below the right eye.
Tip Leave a gap: a smile touching the eyes looks like glasses.
Step 5: The cabin
Start on the deck. Draw a big upside-down U cabin with a domed roof, and stop back on the deck.
Step 6: The funnel
Start on the roof. Draw a fat funnel, wider at the top. Stop back on the roof. Add a stripe.
Tip Like a flower pot upside down.
Step 7: Smoke puffs
On top of the funnel, draw 3 round smoke puffs going up to the right, each bigger than the last.
Step 8: Cabin window
In the cabin, draw a wide pill window. Split it with a line from the top down to the bottom.
Step 9: Portholes
Draw 2 small round portholes, one high near the front of the hull and one near the back.
Step 10: Mast and flag
From a small oval on the deck, draw a tall mast up to a little ball. Add a pointy flag.
Tip The flag points backwards because the ship sails forward.
Step 11: Yellow funnel, pink cheeks
Go over your lines. Colour the funnel and flag yellow, round the stripe at the top. Add pink cheeks.
Step 12: Grey smoke, sky windows
Colour the smoke puffs grey and the window and portholes sky blue. Leave the cabin white.
Step 13: Blue sea, red hull
Colour the sea blue. Colour the hull and funnel stripe red, around the portholes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
