How to Draw Starting Blocks
Draw starting blocks in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rail.
Step 1: The rail
Across the middle draw a long, thin bar with round ends, lying flat. This is the rail.
Step 2: Back footplate
At the rail's middle stand a plank leaning right. From its top draw a line down to the rail.
Step 3: 2 big eyes
Low in that triangle draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, with a shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small U smile, and a flat oval cheek beside each end of it.
Step 5: Front footplate
Left of it stand a shorter plank, leaning over more. From its top draw a line down to the rail.
Step 6: Grip lines
Across each plank draw 3 short lines, evenly spaced, for the grippy strips.
Step 7: The track
Draw 2 long lines across the paper, one behind the blocks, stopping at each block, and one below the rail.
Step 8: Start line
Left of the rail draw 2 close slanted lines from one track line down to the other.
Tip This is the white start line painted on the track.
Step 9: Pink cheeks
Go over your lines, then colour the cheeks pink.
Step 10: Grey rail and braces
Colour the rail and both triangle braces grey, around the face. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Ginger track
Colour the track ginger, around the rail and blocks. Leave the start line white.
Step 12: Red footplates
Colour both footplates red. Your starting blocks are ready. On your marks!
