How to Draw a Star Tetrahedron
Draw a star tetrahedron in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a triangle pointing down.
Step 1: A triangle pointing down
Draw a big triangle with a flat top and its point at the bottom. Make both sides match.
Tip A star tetrahedron is 2 pyramids pushed through each other. This is the front of one.
Step 2: The top point
Start on the flat top, halfway to the middle. Draw a tall point up and back down to match.
Tip Make the top point as tall as the bottom one.
Step 3: Left corner
Start a little way down the left side. Draw a line out and down, then straight back to the side.
Tip The flat bottom of this corner meets the side halfway down.
Step 4: Right corner
Start a little way down the right side. Draw the same corner to match and stop back on the side.
Step 5: The base line
Start where the left corner meets the side. Draw a straight line across and stop at the right corner.
Tip Now you can see a second triangle, pointing up, behind the first one.
Step 6: The middle point
Start at the base line's left end. Draw up to the flat top's middle, then down to the right end.
Step 7: The centre edge
Start at the very top point. Draw a straight line down the middle and stop at the base line.
Tip This edge pokes out towards you, like the ridge of a roof.
Step 8: Sparkles on the left
On the left of the star draw 2 sparkle stars, one higher and one lower.
Step 9: Sparkles on the right
Draw 2 more sparkle stars on the right to match.
Step 10: Shadow and floor
Draw a flat oval shadow under the bottom point. Add a floor line out from each side of it.
Tip The star balances on its bottom point, like a spinning top.
Step 11: Yellow left faces
Colour the 4 sparkles yellow. Colour the 3 pieces left of the centre edge yellow, not the big triangle.
Tip The 3 yellow pieces are all one side of the pyramid that points up.
Step 12: Grey shadow
Colour the shadow under the star grey.
Step 13: Orange right faces
Colour the 3 matching pieces right of the centre edge ginger orange.
Tip Faces that turn away from the light are darker.
Step 14: Blue triangle
Colour the 3 pieces of the big triangle blue. Your star tetrahedron is done!
