How to Draw a Stag Beetle
Draw a stag beetle in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
A little above the middle draw a sideways egg head with round cheeks. Leave room above and below.
Tip A stag beetle's head is small, but its jaws are huge.
Step 2: Two big jaws
From the head top draw a big curved jaw to a sharp tip, with a tooth inside. Both sides.
Tip Thick at the head, thin at the tips, curving toward each other.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big eggy eyes, one eye apart. Black dot and shine in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide open smile: flat top, U below. Add a round cheek each side.
Step 5: The big shell
From the left cheek draw a big fat egg hanging down, wider than the head, stopping at the right cheek.
Tip The shell is bigger than the head. Its top hides behind the head.
Step 6: Shell lines
From the chin draw a line down the middle of the shell. Add a curved line across, under the head.
Step 7: Front legs
Under the curved line draw a bent leg each side: fat thigh up, thin shin down to a pointed foot.
Tip Legs are boomerangs: out to a knee, then down.
Step 8: Middle legs
A thumb lower draw the same leg straight out from the shell: fat thigh, thin shin, pointed foot. Both sides.
Step 9: Back legs
Low on the shell draw the same leg pointing out and down: fat thigh, thin shin, pointed foot. Six legs!
Step 10: Pink cheeks, red mouth
Colour the round cheeks pink and the open mouth red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Brown beetle, grey legs
Colour the head, jaws and shell brown, around the face. Colour the 6 legs dark grey.
