How to Draw a Sleeping Dog
Draw a sleeping dog in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big oval head.
Step 1: Big oval head
On the left, low on the page, draw a big oval head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the curled-up body.
Step 2: Floppy ears
From the top of the head, draw a long ear hanging down past the cheek, back up inside the head.
Tip Do both ears. Rub out the head line inside each ear.
Step 3: Closed eyes
Across the middle of the head, draw 2 closed eyes, each a little U, about an eye apart.
Step 4: Snout and nose
Under the eyes, draw a wide oval for the snout. Sit a black triangle nose on top of it.
Step 5: Sleepy smile
From the nose, draw a short line down. From its end, draw a small curve up to each side.
Step 6: Front paws
Under the chin, draw 2 short round paws side by side, down to the ground. Add 2 toe lines each.
Tip The head is resting on the paws.
Step 7: Curled-up body
Start behind the right ear. Draw a big hill over and down, then flat along the bottom to the paws.
Tip The body is longer than the head and just as tall.
Step 8: Back leg
From the top of the back, draw 1 long curve down the body. Stop a finger above the ground.
Step 9: Wrapped tail
Start low on the back end. Draw a tail round the bottom to a small round tip, then back.
Tip Rub out the body line inside the tail.
Step 10: Ground and zzz
Draw a ground line under the dog. Above the head, draw 3 little z's, each one a bit bigger.
Step 11: Cream snout
Go over your lines. Colour the snout cream, around the black nose.
Step 12: Tan fur
Colour the head, body, paws and tail tan, around the snout.
Step 13: Brown ears
Colour the 2 floppy ears brown.
