How to Draw a Snow Bunting

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a snow bunting in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.

Print

  1. Step 1: The head

Near the top left of your paper draw a big round head, a little wider than tall.

Tip Keep the top smooth and round, like an egg lying down.

  2. Step 2: Tiny cone beak

Start on the front of the head, halfway down. Draw a tiny fat triangle beak and stop on the head.

  3. Step 3: One big eye

Behind the beak draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot and leave a white shine.

  4. Step 4: Cap and cheek

Start above the beak. Draw a cap line over the eye to the back. Add an oval cheek patch.

Tip Keep the cap line and the patch away from the eye.

  5. Step 5: Plump body

Start low on the back of the head. Curve down, round a fat belly, and stop under the beak.

Tip The body is a plump egg hanging under the head, narrower than the head.

  6. Step 6: Fan tail

Start at the back of the body. Draw a fan down and back to the tummy. Add 2 feather lines.

  7. Step 7: Wing with a tip

Start under the back of the head. Draw a teardrop wing pointing at the tail. Draw a line across it.

Tip The line cuts off the pointed end of the wing.

  8. Step 8: Front leg and toes

Under the front of the tummy draw a short leg with 3 chubby toes. Start and stop on the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Back leg and toes

A thumb away from the first leg, draw another leg with 3 toes, starting and stopping on the tummy.

Tip Leave a gap between the 2 feet, at the same height.

  10. Step 10: Snowy ground

Start at the left edge of the paper. Draw a soft snow line behind the toes to the right edge.

  11. Step 11: Yellow beak, blue snow

Colour the beak yellow. Colour the snow pale blue, around the toes, to the edges of the paper.

  12. Step 12: Ginger cap and cheek

Colour the cap and the cheek patch ginger. Leave the face, the eye and the body white.

  13. Step 13: Black wing tip

Colour the wing tip, the tail and both legs black. Your snow bunting is done!
