How to Draw a Spoonbill
Draw a spoonbill in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: small egg head.
Step 1: Small egg head
Near the top, a little left of the middle, draw a small egg head lying on its side.
Tip Leave room on the left for the long bill, and lots of room below.
Step 2: Spoon bill
From the front of the head draw a long thin bill down to a round spoon. Add a middle line.
Tip The bill is thin like a stick, then wide and round at the tip.
Step 3: One big eye
Behind the bill draw a big round eye. Fill it with a black dot, leaving a white shine.
Step 4: Long neck
From under the head draw 2 neck lines down, curving to the right. Stop a head below.
Tip Keep the neck smooth, with no corners.
Step 5: Plump body
Start at the end of the back neck line. Draw a plump oval body round to the front neck line.
Tip The body is about 2 heads wide.
Step 6: Folded wing
On the body draw a big folded wing like a leaf, pointing to the tail. Add 2 short feather lines.
Step 7: Little tail
Start on the back of the body. Draw a short pointed tail sticking out, and stop on the body again.
Step 8: Wavy water
A leg's length below the tummy, draw a wavy water line from the left edge to the right.
Step 9: One long leg
Start under the tummy. Draw 2 lines close together down to the water, with a small bend halfway.
Tip The leg is a little fatter at the top. The foot hides under the water.
Step 10: The other leg
A hand further back draw the second leg the same way, from the tummy down to the water.
Step 11: Grey spoon bill
Colour the spoon bill grey. Leave the head, the neck, the body and the eye white.
Step 12: Pink wing and legs
Colour the wing and the little tail bright pink. Colour both long legs pink, down to the water.
Step 13: Blue water
Colour the water blue, from the wavy line down to the bottom and out to both edges.
