How to Draw an Ankylosaurus
Draw an ankylosaurus in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long low body.
Step 1: Long low body
Start on the left. Draw a long low hump out to the tail, then a tummy back to the front.
Tip Leave a gap at the front for the head, and leave the tail end open for the club.
Step 2: Small head
In the gap at the front, draw a small low head. Start on the back line, end on the tummy.
Tip Keep the head small and low, less than half as tall as the body.
Step 3: Eye, smile, nostril
Draw a big eye near the top of the head, and a smile from the snout to under the eye.
Tip Add a black pupil with a shine, and a nostril dot on the snout.
Step 4: Little horns
Draw 2 little horns pointing back, one on top, one under the cheek. Start and stop on the head line.
Step 5: Tail club
Draw a big round club over the end of the tail, with a little dip at the far end.
Tip The club is much wider than the tail.
Step 6: Armour edge
Start at the shoulder. Draw a long curve across the side of the body, ending at the hip.
Tip Everything above this line is the armour.
Step 7: Side spikes
Along the armour edge, draw 5 little triangle spikes pointing down. Each starts and stops on the edge.
Step 8: Armour plates
On the armour, draw a row of 4 ovals under the back line. Add 3 more below, in the gaps.
Tip Like cobblestones. Keep every oval inside the armour.
Step 9: Front and back legs
Draw a short thick leg under the chest and one under the hip, each with a flat foot.
Tip Start and stop on the tummy. Add 3 round toenails on each foot.
Step 10: The far legs
Draw a far leg peeking out behind the front leg, and one peeking out in front of the back leg.
Tip The far legs are half hidden, so all 4 legs show.
Step 11: The ground
Draw one long straight line under all the feet, from under the head to under the club.
Step 12: Tan body
Colour the head, body, tail, legs and armour plates tan. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Brown armour
Go over your lines. Colour the armour, spikes, horns and club brown, around the tan plates.
