How to Draw a Spiral Shell
Draw a spiral shell in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round shell.
Step 1: Big round shell
Low on your paper, a little left of the middle, draw a big round egg tipped up on the right.
Step 2: Pointy spire
From the egg's top right, draw a pointy cone with 3 bumps on each side, ending back on the egg.
Tip The dips on top and underneath do not line up. That is what makes it twist.
Step 3: 2 big eyes
Draw 2 big egg eyes on the middle of the egg. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.
Step 4: Open smile
Under the eyes, draw a short straight line. From its left end, draw a U round to its right end.
Step 5: Tongue and cheeks
Start on the U, draw a small hill for the tongue, stop on the U. Add 2 oval cheeks.
Step 6: Spiral lines
From each top dip of the spire, draw a slanted curve down to the next dip underneath: 2 lines.
Step 7: The opening
Near the low left end of the egg, draw a tall tilted oval for the opening.
Tip Leave a thick rim of shell all round it.
Step 8: Sand line
Draw one long line under the shell, from one edge of your paper to the other.
Step 9: Cream stripes
Colour the spire bump next to the egg cream, and the tiny tip cream too.
Step 10: Sandy floor
Colour all the ground under the line sandy, down to the bottom of your paper.
Step 11: Peach shell
Colour the egg and the middle spire bump peach, around the opening, cheeks and mouth. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Pink opening and cheeks
Colour the opening, the 2 cheeks and the tongue pink.
Step 13: Red mouth
Colour the rest of the mouth red, around the pink tongue.
