How to Draw a Spinning Jenny
Draw a spinning jenny in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big wheel.
Step 1: The big wheel
On the right of your paper draw a big circle. Draw a slightly smaller circle inside it.
Tip Leave room on the left for the frame.
Step 2: Hub and spokes
In the middle draw a small circle. From it draw 8 spokes out to the inner circle.
Step 3: Two tall posts
Draw a tall thin post behind the wheel's middle, showing above and below. Draw a matching post far left.
Step 4: The top bar
Across the tops of both posts draw a long flat bar, poking out a little at each end.
Step 5: Two rails
Join the posts with 2 flat rails, one low and one higher. The higher one stops at the wheel.
Step 6: Five threads
Start on the higher rail. Draw 5 slanting lines up to the right, evenly spaced. Stop at the top bar.
Tip Keep all 5 lines leaning the same way.
Step 7: Cones of thread
Low on each line draw a fat teardrop of thread, pointed at the top.
Step 8: The handle
On the wheel's rim, on the right, draw a small round knob for the handle.
Step 9: The ground
Draw a straight ground line under both posts, from left to right.
Step 10: Cream thread
Go over your lines, then colour the 5 cones of thread cream.
Step 11: Wooden wheel
Colour the wheel's rim and its hub light brown, going around the knob.
Step 12: Brown frame
Colour the posts, the top bar, the rails and the knob dark brown. Your spinning jenny is done!
