How to Draw a Flying Sparrow
Draw a flying sparrow in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
On the left draw a big round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave room on the left for the beak.
Step 2: Short beak
Start on the front of the head. Draw a short pointed beak out to the left and back.
Step 3: Round eye
Near the beak draw a big round eye. Colour a black dot inside it, leaving a tiny shine.
Tip Leave the rest of the eye white.
Step 4: Cap line
Start on the forehead above the beak. Draw a curve over the eye. Stop at the back of the head.
Step 5: Plump body
Start behind the head. Draw a back line to the right, round a full belly, and stop under the chin.
Tip The chest pokes out a little under the chin.
Step 6: Bib line
Start under the beak. Draw a curve back, then down onto the chest. Stop at the front of the chest.
Tip The bib hangs from the beak like a napkin.
Step 7: Streaky back
Start at the head. Draw a line along the body. Stop at the tail end. Add 2 streaks above it.
Step 8: Short tail
Start on the back end of the body. Draw a short tail with a notch. Stop on the body.
Step 9: Big wing
On the back draw a short round wing leaning back, with 4 soft bumps down its back edge.
Tip The front edge is one smooth curve.
Step 10: Second wing
Start on the back, in front of the big wing. Draw a wing standing up. Stop at the big wing.
Tip It hides a little behind the big wing.
Step 11: Feather lines
Start at the 2 top dips between the bumps. Draw a line from each towards the shoulder. Stop partway.
Tip These lines show the long wing feathers.
Step 12: Grey and cream
Colour the cap and the beak grey. Colour the cheek and the belly cream. Leave the eye white.
Step 13: Brown feathers
Colour the back, both wings and the tail brown.
Step 14: Black bib
Colour the bib black, from the beak down to the chest. Your sparrow is flying!
