How to Draw a Spaceship
Draw a spaceship in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the glass dome.
Step 1: The glass dome
Draw a flat line a hand wide. From its left end draw a tall bubble over to its right end.
Tip Taller than wide: the alien inside is the star of the picture.
Step 2: The alien's head
Inside the bubble draw a big upside-down egg head, nearly as wide as the bubble, chin above the line.
Tip Aliens have big brains: the top is widest and the chin is tiny.
Step 3: Big eyes and smile
Below the middle of the head draw 2 big tilted almond eyes, coloured black. Add a little U smile.
Tip Leave a white shine in each eye. Keep the smile small.
Step 4: The saucer lid
From the left end slope to a round tip, curve under to the far tip, up to the right end.
Tip Wide and flat like a hat brim, twice as wide as the dome.
Step 5: Shoulders and antennae
Beside the chin, draw a shoulder hump from the line up to the head, each side. Add 2 ball antennae.
Tip Shoulders are narrower than the head. Each antenna is a stalk with a ball.
Step 6: The saucer bowl
Start on the lid's bottom near the left tip, draw a deep U under it, stop near the right tip.
Tip The bowl dips well below the lid so the saucer looks fat.
Step 7: Lights and shine
Draw 5 small round lights along the lid's bottom line, evenly spaced. Add a short shine curve in the bubble.
Tip Each light touches the line like a ball on a table.
Step 8: The lamp and beam
Draw a lamp bump under the bowl, an oval below, and lines from the lamp ends to the oval ends.
Tip The oval is the pool of light, with air under it. The beam spreads like a torch.
Step 9: Planet and stars
Top right, draw a small circle planet with a thin ring across its front. Add 3 sparkle stars.
Tip The ring's back hides behind the planet. Keep the stars away from the saucer.
Step 10: Yellow lights, blue glass
Colour the lights, lamp, beam, pool and stars yellow. Colour the glass sky blue around the alien.
Step 11: Green alien, grey lid
Colour the alien and antenna balls green, around the eyes. Colour the lid grey, around the lights.
Step 12: Red bowl, purple planet
Colour the saucer bowl red. Colour the planet and its ring purple.
