How to Draw a Rocket
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: nose cone.
Step 1: Nose cone
Near the top, draw a hand-wide flat line. From its left end, draw a tall hill to the right end.
Tip The hill is taller than wide, like a bullet tip. Leave room below.
Step 2: Tall body
From each end of the line, draw a long line down to the bottom. Join the ends with a sag.
Tip The body is about 2 and a half times as tall as the cone.
Step 3: Two swept fins
Start low on each side. Draw a big C out past the bottom, then back up to the body.
Tip Wide at the body, narrow at the round tip, like a leaf.
Step 4: Big round window
In the top part of the body, draw one big circle, more than half as wide as the body.
Step 5: Friendly face
In the window, draw 2 big black eyes with a white sparkle. Under them, draw a wide U smile.
Tip Leave a gap between the eyes, and keep the smile a wide, shallow bowl.
Step 6: Stripe band
Under the window, draw a line from the left edge across to the right edge. Draw another just below.
Tip Make the band fat enough to colour in easily.
Step 7: Bell nozzle
Start on the bottom line, left of the middle. Draw a trumpet bell, then back up to the bottom line.
Tip The bell is wider than half the body and hangs below the fin tips.
Step 8: Big flame
Start at the left corner of the bell. Draw 3 fire tongues, the middle one longest, ending at the right.
Tip Keep the dips between tongues soft and round, not sharp.
Step 9: Little flame inside
Inside the big flame, draw a smaller one, half as tall. Start and stop on the bottom of the bell.
Tip Leave a gap between the little flame and the big flame.
Step 10: Stars in space
Draw 3 sparkle stars around the rocket: 4 dots like a plus sign, joined with curves that dip in.
Tip A big star top right, small ones top left and beside the right fin.
Step 11: Yellow and sky blue
Colour the little flame and stars yellow. Colour the body sky blue, but not the window or stripe.
Step 12: Grey nozzle, orange fire
Colour the bell nozzle grey. Colour the big flame orange, around the little yellow flame.
Step 13: Red fins, blue window
Colour the nose cone, fins and stripe red. Colour the window blue, around the eyes and smile.
