How to Draw a Sneaker

Draw a sneaker in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: ground and fat sole.

Step 1: Ground and fat sole
Draw a ground line a hand up. On it, draw one long fat sole with the toe end lifting up.
Tip As long as your hand and as fat as your thumb is wide.
Step 2: Half-dome toe cap
Start at the toe tip. Draw a big half-dome up and over, stopping on the sole a third along.
Step 3: Scoop, collar and heel
Start behind the toe cap. Draw back, scoop up to the ankle, over the collar, and down to the sole.
Tip The heel swells out like a cheek and tucks in above the sole.
Step 4: Collar band and tab
Start under the collar's front. Draw a band back under the collar top, stopping on the heel. Add a tab.
Step 5: Lace panel and rings
Start on the band behind the scoop. Draw a long J down, stopping on the scoop. Add 3 pairs of rings.
Tip Keep the J a thumb from the scoop; rings sit inside the panel.
Step 6: Short tongue
Start at the collar's front corner. Draw a short rounded tab just above the collar, stopping on the collar.
Step 7: X laces
Lace ring to ring with 2 X's going up. Join the top 2 rings with an upside-down V.
Step 8: Tied bow
Where the V meets at the top, draw a small oval knot. Add a fat loop out each side.
Tip Loops go up and out, the laces hang down from the knot: that makes it a bow.
Step 9: Sole stripe and treads
Start at the toe end. Draw a stripe along the sole, stopping at the heel. Add 5 tread lines below.
Step 10: Heel star
On the heel under the band, draw one big 5-point star.
Step 11: Grey rubber, yellow star
Colour the sole under the stripe grey, and the star yellow. Leave the top of the sole white.
Step 12: Red canvas
Colour the canvas red around the star. Leave the toe cap, tongue, bow and lace panel white.
