How to Draw a Snake
Draw a snake in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.
Step 1: Big round head
Top left, draw a big round head like a sideways egg, with round cheeks and a smaller chin.
Tip Make it big: a third as tall as the whole snake.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes close together, with black dots and a shine.
Step 3: Nostrils and smile
Dot 2 nostrils under the eyes. Start under the left eye and draw a wide smile, stopping under the right.
Tip One curved line like a shallow bowl, low on the head.
Step 4: Forked tongue
From the middle of the smile, draw a fat tongue down past the chin that splits into 2 points.
Tip The tongue flicks into empty space. It should not touch the body.
Step 5: Long body
Start on the chin. Draw a tube curving right, round, and back left along the bottom to a point.
Tip Come back up the outside to the right cheek. Keep the bottom flat, with no kinks.
Step 6: Belly line
Start under the head. Draw 1 long line just inside the outside edge, stopping where the body lies flat.
Tip Keep it smooth, like the edge of the body moved in a little.
Step 7: The ground
Rule 1 long straight line under the snake, right along the flat bottom of its body.
Step 8: Grass tuft
Near the right end of the ground, draw 3 short grass blades from the line, stopping in the air.
Tip One leans left, one stands up, one leans right.
Step 9: Oval spots
Along the top of the body, draw a row of 6 oval spots from neck to tail, getting smaller.
Tip Spots are little eggs inside the body, above the belly line.
Step 10: Yellow belly and spots
Colour the belly strip and all the spots yellow.
Step 11: Red tongue
Colour the tongue red.
Step 12: Green snake
Go over your lines. Colour the head and body green around the belly and spots, leaving the eyes white.
