How to Draw a Smoke
Draw a smoke in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: three big puffs.
Step 1: Three big puffs
Near the top draw 3 big round bumps, like a cloud top. Start on the left, stop on the right.
Tip The middle bump sits highest. Leave lots of room underneath.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Under the middle bump draw 2 big egg eyes, close together. Add black dots and shines.
Tip Leave a tiny white dot in each black dot. That is the shine.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile from eye to eye. Draw a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 4: Right side
From the right end draw 3 bumps going down, each one smaller, stepping in. Stop at the bottom.
Tip Smoke is thin near the fire and spreads out as it rises.
Step 5: Left side
From the left end draw 3 bumps going down, each one smaller, until you meet the bottom bump.
Tip The dents on this side sit between the dents on the other side.
Step 6: Curly puffs
Below the face, start at 3 dents between bumps. Carry the lower bump's line on inside, like a curl.
Tip Short curls make the smoke look round and puffy.
Step 7: The flame
Under the smoke draw a pointy flame with a round bottom. Its tip touches the bottom puff.
Tip Give the flame a little lick on each side.
Step 8: Flame inside
Inside the flame draw a smaller pointy teardrop flame.
Step 9: Two logs
Across the flame's bottom draw a long round log leaning one way. Cross a second log behind it.
Step 10: The ground
Start on the left. Draw a ground line under the logs, touching their low ends. Stop on the right.
Step 11: Pink cheeks, yellow flame
Colour the 2 cheeks pink and the small inside flame yellow.
Step 12: Orange flame, brown logs
Colour the big flame orange around the yellow. Colour both logs brown.
Step 13: Grey smoke
Colour all the smoke grey, around the pink cheeks. Leave the eyes white. Your smoke is done!
