How to Draw a Sleigh Ride

Step 1: Head and ears

On the left draw a long head like a fat peanut, nose end down. Add 2 pointed ears on top.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the sleigh.

Step 2: The horse's face

Draw a big round eye with a black dot. Add a nostril dot and a short smile near the nose.

Step 3: Neck and back

Start behind the ears. Draw a line down the neck, along the back and round the bottom. Stop halfway down.

Step 4: Two legs

Start under the chin: draw the chest, a front leg, the tummy and a back leg. Stop at the back.

Tip Each leg is wide at the top and narrow near the hoof.

Step 5: Far legs and snow

Draw 2 more legs peeking from behind. Add a hoof line across all 4 legs and a snow line underneath.

Step 6: Mane and tail

Draw a mane like a long hill down the back of the neck. Add a long tail behind the bottom.

Step 7: The sleigh

Behind the horse draw a sleigh like a boat with a tall back. Add a curled runner and 2 posts.

Step 8: Rider's head

Above the sleigh draw a round head in a woolly hat with a bobble. Add 2 eyes and a smile.

Step 9: Scarf, coat and arm

Draw a scarf flying back under the chin. Add a coat, and a bent arm with a mitten held up.

Step 10: The harness

Draw a collar round the horse's neck. Add a pole to the sleigh and a rein to the mitten.

Step 11: Snowflakes

Draw 4 little round snowflakes falling in the sky above the horse and the sleigh.

Step 12: Peach and tan

Colour the rider's face peach. Colour the horse tan, but not its collar, hooves, mane or tail.

Tip Leave the horse's eye white.

Step 13: Red and brown

Colour the sleigh, the collar and the bobble red. Colour the mane, tail, 4 hooves and the runner brown.

Step 14: Green and blue

Colour the hat, scarf and mitten green. Colour the coat and its arm blue. Your sleigh ride is done!
