How to Draw a Reusable Rocket
Draw a reusable rocket in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the pointed nose.
Step 1: The pointed nose
Start top left, draw a tall cone up to a tip and down to the same height. Add a seam.
Tip Tall like a pencil. The seam is a flat line across the cone's bottom.
Step 2: The tall body
From each end of the seam draw a long straight line down, over a hand long. Join them below.
Step 3: Big window face
High on the body draw a big round window, nearly as wide as the body, with eyes and a smile.
Tip The window is the face: the eyes fill most of its top half.
Step 4: Grid fins
Just under the seam draw a small square box sticking out each side, with a plus sign inside.
Tip Grid fins are little waffle flaps that steer the rocket as it comes down.
Step 5: Stripe and panel line
Across the middle rule 2 stripe lines from the left edge across to the right. Add one lower line.
Step 6: Landing legs
Low on the body draw a thin slanted leg out and down from each side, with a flat foot pad.
Tip The legs fold out so the rocket can land standing up and fly again.
Step 7: Bell nozzle
Under the rocket draw a small bell: start on the bottom line, flare down and out, stop back on it.
Tip It hangs above the ground, between the feet.
Step 8: Landing pad
Rule a long level pad line under the feet, from past the left foot over to past the right.
Tip The rocket has just touched down, so there is no flame.
Step 9: Stars
Draw 3 twinkle stars in the sky: a big one high on the right and 2 small ones.
Step 10: White rocket, grey fins
Colour the body and cone white around the window and stripe, and the fins, legs, pads and nozzle grey.
Step 11: Navy stripe, sky window
Colour the stripe band navy blue and the window sky blue, going round the smile. Keep the eyes white.
Step 12: Yellow stars
Colour the 3 twinkle stars yellow. Your reusable rocket has landed!
