How to Draw a Shelf

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a shelf in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the shelf board.

Print

  1. Step 1: The shelf board

Below the middle draw a long chunky bar across the paper, 2 fingers thick: the shelf board from the front.

Tip Make the board nice and thick: the face goes on its front.

  2. Step 2: Two big eyes

In the middle of the board draw 2 egg eyes with big black dots, leaving room above and below.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Under the eyes draw a small U smile inside the board, and a small flat oval cheek beside each eye.

  4. Step 4: Two brackets

Under the board draw a triangle bracket near each end: a line down, then a slant up to the board.

  5. Step 5: Three books

On the left draw 3 tall boxes side by side standing on the board, the middle one tallest, for books.

  6. Step 6: A clock

Above the board's middle draw a round clock with 4 tiny ticks and 2 hands: one up, one right.

  7. Step 7: A plant pot

On the right draw a pot standing on the board: a flat top, sides slanting in a little, flat bottom.

  8. Step 8: Leaves

From the pot's top draw 3 long teardrop leaves, points up: one straight up, one leaning left, one right.

  9. Step 9: Sparkles

Draw a sparkle star up on each side of the shelf.

  10. Step 10: Cream clock, yellow sparkles

Go over your lines, then colour the clock cream and the sparkles yellow.

  11. Step 11: Pink cheeks, orange pot

Colour the cheeks pink and the pot orange.

  12. Step 12: Green leaves, wood shelf

Colour the leaves leaf green, then the board and brackets wood brown around the face. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Red and blue books

Colour the outside books red and the middle book blue. Your shelf is ready!
