How to Draw a Pufferfish

Step 1: Eye and kissy lips

Left of the middle, draw 1 huge round eye. In front, draw small kissy lips like a sideways 3.

Tip Keep the lips small, so they cannot look like a second tail.

Step 2: Ball body

From the lips, draw a round ball body over the eye, down to a tiny neck. Draw the belly too.

Tip Puffed up like a balloon: nearly a full circle with a tiny neck.

Step 3: Tiny tail

From the back's end, draw a lobe up, then one down to the belly. Close the root with a line.

Tip Keep it small, like a sideways bow tie.

Step 4: Small top fin

Start on the back near the tail. Draw a small sail leaning back, stopping further along. Add 1 ray.

Step 5: Gill

A finger behind the eye, draw a short C bowing toward the tail, not touching the back or belly.

Step 6: Side fin

Behind the gill, below the middle, draw a leaf fin lying flat, pointing at the tail. Add 2 rays.

Step 7: Belly fin

Start on the belly behind the side fin. Draw a small upside-down sail, stopping on the belly nearer the tail.

Step 8: Spikes

Round the body, draw small pointy spikes standing on the outline: 5 along the back, 5 under the belly.

Tip Keep the spikes off the face, fins and neck.

Step 9: Round spots

Behind the gill, draw 4 round spots, 2 above the side fin and 2 below it.

Step 10: Bubbles

In front of the lips, draw 3 bubbles floating up: small, bigger, biggest.

Step 11: Sand and seaweed

Near the bottom, draw a wavy sand line from edge to edge. Add 2 seaweed blades left, 1 right.

Step 12: Colour it yellow

Colour the body, lips and spikes yellow, around the eye, spots and side fin. Leave the eye white.

Step 13: Orange fins and sand

Colour the tail and all 3 fins orange. Colour the sand sandy, down to the bottom of the page.

Step 14: Brown spots, green seaweed

Colour the 4 spots brown and the seaweed green. Leave the bubbles white.
