How to Draw a Scroll
Draw a scroll in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the paper.
Step 1: The paper
In the middle of your paper draw a tall box for the unrolled scroll, taller than wide.
Tip Like a door-shaped page.
Step 2: Two rolls
Across the top of the page draw a long flat bar poking out both sides. Same across the bottom.
Step 3: Two big eyes
On the page, above the middle, draw 2 big egg eyes close together. Colour a black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a U smile from eye to eye. Draw a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Roll ends
On each end of each roll draw a small upright oval with a tiny circle inside.
Step 6: Writing lines
Under the face draw 3 lines of writing across the page. Make the last one short.
Step 7: A wax seal
Beside the short line draw a small round seal with 2 ribbon tails under it, each ending in a V.
Step 8: Ground line
Draw a ground line under the scroll from well left to well right.
Step 9: Sparkles
Draw 3 sparkle stars round the scroll: one on the left, one on the right, one low on the left.
Step 10: Cream paper, yellow sparkles
Go over your lines, then colour the page cream and the sparkles yellow, leaving the eyes white.
Step 11: Tan rolls
Colour the 2 rolls and their ends tan.
Step 12: Pink cheeks, red seal
Colour the cheeks pink, then the seal and its ribbons red, and your scroll is ready to read!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a scroll, drawn by you.
